In June the world learned that the woman known as Chastity Bono, daughter to Sonny and Cher, would now be referred to as Chaz Bono. Honoring his "trus identity" by becoming a man, Chaz, 40, went public with the news that he was undergoing gender reassignment surgery. "I've always appreciated being able to use the media in a way to educate people about issues," says Bono, a longtime advocate of gay rights who had come out as a lesbian in 1995.
